BC Place Stadium Opening Ceremonies Olympic Flame and Outdoor Flame

The lighting of the Olympic cauldron is always the showpiece moment of the opening ceremonies.  The Vancouver Winter Games proved that the best laid plans can not always be executed.  A hydraulic malfunction kept one of four pillars from rising to the occasion.  Instead it remained below ground.

A famous Canadian athlete torch bearer had been stationed at each of the four pillars, intent on sending  the four individual flames to meet at the top.  NBA basketball star Steve Nash, speed skater Catriona LeMay Doan, skier Nancy Green and hockey great Wayne Gretzky were poised to set each of their flames rushing up a pillar.

The speed skater was left standing idle when her pillar failed to materialized.  After a brief hesitation, the other three athletes were signaled to light their pillars despite the malfunction.  The result can be seen in our lead photo above.

As originally planned, Gretsky then headed out of the stadium to light the second outdoor cauldron, near the Coal Harbour waterfront, as a spectacular fireworks display lite up the skies overhead.  That flame will burn during the two weeks of the Vancouver Games.

The opening ceremonies were dedicated to Georgian Olympic luger Nodar Kumaritashvila, who tragically died during a training run earlier in the day – see disturbingly graphic crash photos and video here.

After working her way through countless men and two failed marriages, Madonna has been asked to appear as a guest judge on Jerry Seinfeld’s new NBC television series “The Marriage Ref”.

The premise of the show will be that a celebrity panel of three will watch video clips of married couples fighting.  Their task is to decide which spouse won the fight.

The Material Girl has been married to actor Sean Penn and  Guy Ritchie.  Madge’s most recent conquest has been with boytoy Jesus Luz -  photos here.  We are guessing that Madonna never comes out on the losing end of the fights in her home.

Other judges will be Eva Longoria, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Larry Gervais and Larry David.

The show will debut on February 28th.  We’ll be tuning in because anything that Jerry Seinfeld is involved in should be good.

Tila Tequila wins crazy celebrity ‘tweet’ of the day recognition – hands down.  She is in the habit of writing about every move she makes and the latest revelation being shared with her Twitter fans is the fact that she fell and bumped her head.

The first “tweet” stated that she fell off a chair and slammed her head into the wall and heard her skull crack.  She even felt dents in it!

TMZ is reporting that Tila was comparing her fall to that of deceased actress Natasha Richardson.  Her following ‘tweet’ read: “I should call the ambulance just in case …like the one actress that died cause she hit her head & thought she was OK but died later…pray for me.”

Her next entry: “Ambulance on the way to my house.  I could have a brain concussion and die in a few hours.”

Tila’s rep had to take over because she apparently really did suffer a concussion and could no longer ‘tweet’ further updates on her status.

Rest assured she has been released from the hospital and is resting comfortably at her home.  TMZ has photos of Tila and the ambulance, check them out here.

Tequila recently announced that she is carrying her brother’s baby.  The above photo of the reality star was taken a few weeks ago when she was out shopping with her other baby.

It has been 25 years since the original recording of “We Are The World” raised over $63 million for refugee famine relief in Africa.  A whole new group of 80+ global superstars assembled to record a new version of the Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie song — this time for the people of Haiti.  The producer of both productions was Quincy Jones.

Here’s Lindsay Lohan in a somewhat see through dress at a Richard Branson event called ‘Rock The Kasbah’. I like this sultry blond haired orange skinned Lindsay, she’s hot and looks like she eats a lot of carrots. As far as see through dresses go this one is a little weak, but it’s close enough. I’m clearly not great with languages, but if Kasbah is arabic for crotch then Lindsay is definitely rockin’ mine. Enjoy.
